12/26/09Pros:
Some pro's are opinions. This one is a fact... THEY ALLOW YOU TO HOST A SERVER. Most companies will cancel your service and fine you for doing this. DSL Extreme is fine with it.
Opinion: Connection is reliable and at the quoted speed.
Cons:
Wished they offered cable to ATNT customers.
Not free.
Other Thoughts:
Tech Support is the best. Holding time is rarely over 5 minutes and they provide live chat. They solve problems as opposed to blaming some faulty piece of equipment that isn't their fault.
When connection goes out just unplug router and modem and wait 2 minutes. Plug modem in and wait 2 minutes. Plug router in and you should be set. This happens from time to time regardless or provider.
Remember guys and this is important line speeds are usually quotes in kbps. This is different from KBps. The former is kilo bites per second while the latter is kilo bytes per second. A byte is 8 bits.
In reality with overhead their speeds should be as follows:
768kbps is about 82 KB\second as measured by download speed that appears when stuff is downloading
1500 is about 165
3000 is about 330
6000 is about 660
I couldn't be more happy with this company. There were happy to hear me wine when I kept complaining about my line coming unsynchronized a few times in a week. They said it wasn't there fault. I didn't believe them. Later that week I found a down power line in the backyard. It was the ground line. It was my fault.
Moral of the story this company wants customers in the long haul. I couldn't be happier

11/18/09Pros:
Inexpensive and customer service is not bad.
Cons:
Can't provide speed even with a contract. Binds you to a contract and even though they can't provide the service, they won't let you out of the contract
Other Thoughts:
I had dslextreme but the speed was too slow so i upgraded to 3Mb. I went out of town and my phone line got disconnected. Took DSLExtreme 10 days to redo my service.
Now DSLExtreme is saying that i can't get the 3Mb because i am too far away. THey extended my contract and asked me to pay $250 to get out of the contract..
Can't provide the speed and the service but still want the contract fee.
You'd be better off going directly with the phone provider.

08/15/09Pros:
If you plan to sign up with DSL Extreme for their advertised low cost plans, think again!!
Cons:
Will do anything to steal your $$
Other Thoughts:
If you plan to sign up with DSL Extreme for their advertised low cost plans, think again!! Three months ago, my 12 mo. contract with DSL Extreme finally expired. I canceled immediately... Just when I thought I'd never need to deal with that company ever again, today, I received a letter from their Collection Dept that I owe them $99 because I haven't sent back my modem. What!? Where's that written?? When I called in to cancel my plan, their service dept. made no mention of it, or I would have returned it... I used other DSL companies before, never once did I need to return the modem at the end of contract, it never even crossed my mind. Besides, I clearly remember that I paid some $$ for the modem in the beginning... Further, when I initially signed up with DSL Extreme, I picked the Express plan. However, the speed I was getting was slower than their Basic plan because they said I live too far from their service hub (but, of course, they didn't tell me that when I was signing up). They said the speed I was getting still meets the minimum speed (written in the small prints) so I can't change to their Basic plan or cancel the contract unless I was willing to pay several hundred $$ of early cancellation fee. Thus, for an entire year, I suffered with painfully slow Internet. And now, they are threatening to damage my credit if I don't pay them another additional $99. Is there still law!?
